What this experience is like in depth
Animal-Assisted Therapy is a nature-based approach. It is clinical therapy that intentionally includes a specially trained animal as part of the therapeutic process. It works with the understanding that healing is not only about insight but also about what is felt, witnessed, and released in the body, relationships, and environment. In a session, you meet with the therapist and animal together; interaction with the animal is woven into conversation and skill practice. You will sit, pet, walk with the animal, talk. This is offered one-on-one, typically 45 to 60 minutes, and touch is optional and always negotiated. People often choose this when they are carrying Anxiety, Trauma, Grief, Loneliness, and Emotional Numbness. Over time, this work can become a way of relating to yourself with less fear and more capacity.
